Happy Saturday dear ones,
I couldn't find a review of this sweet looking early chapter book from a Christian perspective, so I wrote one for you.
It's a sweet story of a baby owl who is afraid of the dark. His mother tells him to ask others why they like the dark, in order to help him overcome his fear, with each chapter focusing on one positive aspect of the dark- great for littles who are also struggling with nighttime fears.
It’s endearing and has a predictably happy ending of him overcoming his fear, but there is some content which led to some interesting discussion with my children.
In a nutshell there was a lot of suggestive narrative that children are a nuisance, with the parents often talking down to the baby owl as if they just want him out of the way, which I didn't really like. We had to stop a few times to discuss it, which if you've known me for a while, you'll know that I don't necessarily think is a bad thing as it prompts great discussion about what God says, but I definitely felt I spoiled what was quite a wholesome book in other ways.
Thus overall I'd say it's a 3.5 out of 5, and I'd do it as a read aloud, not an independent read.
I am also really excited to share that I'm hosting a giveaway with two lovely charlotte mason home educating mums. One winner will received a copy of Habits for the Mother by The Charlotte Mason Home and Flourishing Foundations by Living Bright Homeschool, as well as our Jungle Book companion 👏

What we’ve been enjoying lately
Me- I have just started reading Mother Culture by Karen Andreola, and oh my, what a breath of fresh air she is. If you need encouragement in how to invest in your own heart and mind, out of which flows the culture of your home, motherhood and homeschool (if you homeschool, which I don't) then this book is just perfect. Each chapter is short, rich, encouraging and has delightful illustration and quotes throughout. A thoroughly wholesome book.
Sefton (age 8) - Sefton has been loving the Mismantle Chronicles series - a wonderful fantasy adventure series for approx 8+. Having just finished the third book, he is totally gripped. He likened them to Redwall, so if you have a redwall fan, we think you'll love these.
As a family - we will be reading Heidi as spring approaches and will be using our devotional companion with it. A perfect way to ponder His mighty deeds as talked about earlier 🥹 you can find our companions here.
If you have any questions regarding any of these books or our companions, please feel free to respond to this email, or reach out to me on Instagram.
Many blessings,
Jessica
