I also wanted to share a book that I found to absolutely live up to the hype surrounding it….
If there’s one book I’d recommend to all parents, it’s this. 👏
If you are looking for a book full of epic adventure, overcoming adversity with courage and perseverance, compassion, friendship, an array of valuable life lessons and more, all whilst subtly pointing your children to the beauty of the gospel, I wholeheartedly recommend this book. ♥️
It was totally unputdownable and one we will not forget. Sefton (aged 8) has read it independently around 3 times since we first read it aloud, and now I’m reading it aloud to our middle daughter (age 5) who is totally captivated.
Joe Sutphin has beautifully executed this centuries old tale, taking Helen Taylor’s children’s adaptation and putting a fresh edge on it, in such a way that it is engaging for even the smaller readers. That is, each character has been adapted to a charming woodland animal, such as rabbits, squirrels and owls, bringing a softer edge to the story. 🐿️
The illustrations are just exquisite. Beautifully detailed, captivating and portraying the peril in such a way that it is not too scary. As you can see in the video on my Instagram post today, there is real feeling to the illustration. I found myself lingering on the detail and my son regularly sits and looks at the pictures of the Good Prince at the back 🦁
The chapters are short, making it perfect for both short and longer read aloud times so it is very versatile. 👏
All in all, a perfect book for ages 4/5+ as a read aloud, or 8+ as an independent read.
